The 916-series GTV and Spider pair must rank towards the top of the list of the best-designed coupé and cabriolet twins in the world. Usually one of the two ends up short-changed. This time it is absolutely clear that at the time of its design, in 1987, both were given equal attention. The task on Enrico Fumia’s desk was nothing short of colossal. Alfa had been in a steady decline for over a decade, leading to its 1986 sale to Fiat, ending once and for all its independence.
